History and culture with a holiday house in Fermarn
Previously named Femera, Fimbria, Cimbria, Parva and Imbra and first settled by the Slavic tribe of Wagri in the early Middle Ages, the island of Fermarn was eventually Christianised and Germanised. A visit to the tiny village of Vadersdorf provides the perfect opportunity to experience traditional Baltic warmth and hospitality. The islanders revere St. Nicholas, the patron saint of sea travellers and grain sellers , whose church (St. Nikolai Kirche), is the second oldest on the island and traces its beginnings to the 11th century. Along with the Fermarn's perfect windsurfing conditions, the annual KiteSurf Trophy is gaining international attention. Cultural events, dance and music festivals are regular fixtures of the island's cultural calendar.
